Psi-2 Lupi is a blue-white B-type star about 364 light-years away, embedded in the Scorpius-Centaurus association —the closest brotherhood of young massive suns to ours. It outshines the Sun many times over, yet its life will be brief on cosmic scales: stars of its kind devour their hydrogen so greedily that they are condemned to fade, or detonate, within a few hundred million years.
Where it is and when to see it
Psi 2 Lupi lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is May: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
