10 Serpentis belongs to the unusual constellation of Serpens, the only one split in two parts —head and tail— by the figure of Ophiuchus, the serpent-bearer. It is a white A-type star with a surface markedly hotter than the Sun's, and its light crosses fewer than one hundred and thirty years before reaching Earth. In galactic terms, it counts as the neighbourhood.

10 Serpens lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is May, when it culminates around midnight.
