In the scales of Libra glows an orange K-class star, whose light set out some 425 years ago, when Kepler was publishing his first laws of planetary motion and dismantling Ptolemy's perfect wheel. K stars are serene elders, golden, with surfaces cooler than the Sun yet atmospheres rich in metallic spectral lines that betray earlier stellar generations.
