Cool red starIts story
Within the vast Virgo, 702 light-years away, beats a rare red M-type star, one of the coolest in the visible firmament. Its light set out around 1324, when Marco Polo was dictating his last memoirs in Venice after returning from Cathay. Far cooler than the Sun, with a surface of barely 3,500 degrees, its crimson tone evokes embers that have refused to die out for centuries.
