What is HIP 62103
In Virgo, that vast maiden occupying half a celestial band, a yellow G-class sun shines 218.5 light-years away, a distant cousin of our own. Though they share a spectral family, the distance forces the light to travel more than two centuries: tonight's beam left while Goya was painting his Black Paintings at the Quinta del Sordo, on the outskirts of Madrid.
Where it is and when to see it
HIP 62103 lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is March: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
