Hot blue starIts story
Circinus is the compass of the celestial cartographer, another of those modern constellations drawn to honour scientific instruments. Within its outline burns this hot blue B-class star, young and voracious, 1305 light-years away. Its light set out at the peak of medieval Islam, when Baghdad was the planet s greatest centre of learning and Persian astronomers looked at the same sky with mathematicians eyes.
