Its story
Centaurus, that vast austral constellation, hosts this yellow-white F-type sun, suspended 170 light-years away. Its light set out around 1855, when the first transatlantic telegraph cable was being prepared to soon link continents. While humans were learning to talk coast to coast, this star had already dispatched the photons now arriving at magnitude 5.53.
