Hot blue starIts story
4 Centauri is a hierarchical quadruple system. Its primary is a blue-white B-type subgiant with a spectroscopic companion locked in a 6.93-day orbit; the secondary is an Am star, also a spectroscopic binary, on a 4.84-day cycle. Four suns tangled in days-long dances, some 640 light-years away, near the southern edge of Centaurus. Their combined luminosity comfortably exceeds 700 times the Sun's.
