What is HIP 67244
Far away in Centaurus gleams a white A-type star whose light has been traveling for more than four centuries. When the ray now reaching our eyes set out, Cervantes had just published the second part of Don Quixote and the Atlantic shipyards were carving galleons for ever longer crossings. Its surface burns past eight thousand degrees and its size exceeds the Sun's, a serene bonfire that has witnessed, without knowing, the centuries when Spain leaned out toward a new world.
Where it is and when to see it
HIP 67244 lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is April: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
