Its story

49 Virginis lies within the long body of the Virgin, near the edge of the galaxy swarm seen in that direction. It is an orange K-type giant whose surface —cooler and far larger than the Sun's— pours out a gilded light that takes 307 years to reach us. One more piece of the tapestry of old stars that adorns this stretch of the spring sky.
