13 Comae Berenices belongs to the famous Coma Star Cluster, Melotte 111, an open grouping so close that its members fan out across the entire telescope field. It is a white A-type star classified as a peculiar Alpha2 CVn variable, with a magnetic field that organises chemical patches across its surface. Its light reaches us from 265 light-years, like a wink within Berenice's flowing hair.
