Bet
Variable starIts story
Beta Hydrae is a peculiar Ap-type variable, harbouring an intense magnetic field and chemical patches that drift across its surface as it rotates. Each turn slightly changes what we see, like a gemstone whose face shifts when moved under the light. It shines near the southern tail of Hydra, the longest serpent in the sky, some 310 light years from us.
