Variable starIts story
It is a white A-type star in Sculptor, another of the constellations Lacaille traced in the southern sky in honour of the arts and the workshops. It is also a variable: its brightness breathes to its own beat. Its light took some 226 years to arrive: it set out around 1799, in the midst of Europe s Napoleonic reorganisation. In Sculptor, with no major bright knots, it keeps a discreet pulse reminiscent of a chisel s patient rhythm.
