What is 58 Leonis
58 Leonis glows with the orange tone typical of a K-class star, about 360 light-years away, within the regal silhouette of the Lion. Its warm hue suggests a surface cooler than the Sun, yet a volume probably far larger. The radiation crossing Earth s atmosphere tonight set out in the early seventeenth century, just as Galileo first pointed his telescope to the sky.
Where it is and when to see it
58 Leonis lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is March: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
