Cool red starIts story
Another red giant, this time in Carina, some six hundred and eighty-two light years away. The light observed today set off around 1343, deep in the European Middle Ages, while Christian kingdoms were consolidating their borders against al-Andalus. Its M-class, among the coolest in the spectral catalogue, gives it a warm glow at the telescope's eyepiece —a vivid contrast to the massive blues of the same constellation.
