If its catalogued distance is confirmed, we would be looking at a star well beyond the usual bounds of the Milky Way, a pale beacon from a deeply prehistoric era. What we see today is only the very far echo of that antiquity.
Where it is and when to see it
HIP 51623 lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky.
