Highly luminous starIts story
At 2652 light-years, in the constellation of Carina, blazes an extraordinarily luminous orange giant whose light set out around the seventh century, at the height of the Umayyad Caliphate and the earliest Islamic astronomical observations. Its K classification hides an aged, enormous star that pours out thousands of times the Sun's energy and reaches the human eye despite the distance. It is a far beacon of the southern hemisphere.
