Star profile
HIP 47193
Northern polar starWhat is HIP 47193
Anchored near the celestial north pole, this orange giant in Draco burns with the coppery patina of K-class stars, a calm pulse that was already shining when the Norman fleet crossed the Channel toward England in 1066. Its light took nearly a thousand years to reach us, crossing 994 years of human history. Cooler yet far larger than the Sun, it offers that golden vein astronomers tie to evolved stars, still steady in its slow polar turn.
