It belongs to the RS Canum Venaticorum family of variables: its brightness shifts subtly as rotation drags active starspots across the surface. In roughly 879,000 years it will pass within just 51 light-years of the Sun, a slow but inevitable visit through our galactic neighbourhood.

24 Ursae Majoris lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky.
