Variable starIts story
24 Ursae Majoris, also known as DK Ursae Majoris, is a yellow G4 giant about 104 light-years away. It belongs to the RS Canum Venaticorum family of variables: its brightness shifts subtly as rotation drags active starspots across the surface. In roughly 879,000 years it will pass within just 51 light-years of the Sun, a slow but inevitable visit through our galactic neighbourhood.
