Iot
Southern polar starIts story
Iota Chamaeleontis is a yellow-white F-type star in Chamaeleon, in the deep south near the celestial pole. At about 188 light-years, it radiates twenty times the Sun's light from a surface at 6,429 K. Its most singular feature is invisible to the eye: an infrared excess betrays a disc of dust orbiting at some eight astronomical units, at 200 K — a possible scene of planet formation.
