18 Ursae Majoris is a white A-type star whose brightness wavers subtly, a sign of internal pulsations only delicate photometry can measure. It belongs to the Great Bear, that Plough asterism which has guided sailors and shepherds for millennia. Its light, young on a cosmic scale, travels just over a century before reaching our telescopes.
