Hot blue starIts story
In Vela —the sail of the Argo that once crossed the ancient seas— shines a B-type star, blue-white and very hot, far more radiant than the Sun. Its light began its journey at the start of the sixteenth century, when the Medici returned to Florence and Magellan was preparing the first voyage around the world. Five centuries later, that same brightness completes its long path above the southern horizon.
