Its story

Deep within Vela burns a red M-type giant, its surface temperate compared to the white fury of other stars, yet its volume formidable. Its 965 light-years began their journey when the Christian kingdoms of northern Iberia were waging the first great battles of the Reconquista and Europe was barely beginning to feel itself a continent. That ancient ember still reaches us, patient.
