What is Muscida

Muscida marks the muzzle of the Great Bear, where the figure sniffs the northern regions of the sky. Its name, from late Latin, means precisely that: the muzzle. A yellow G-class giant 179 light years away, it is cooler and more mature than the Sun yet of the same spectral family, an older sister of our star seen on the celestial bear's face.

Muscida lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is January: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
