Hot blue starIts story
Vela appears again, this time with a blue-white B-type star at extreme temperatures, at the astonishing distance of 1431 light-years. Its light set out around the sixth century, when Justinian was issuing in Constantinople the Corpus Iuris Civilis that would underpin Western law. What a human pupil perceives as a bluish point at magnitude 5.82 is in fact a flame vibrating since late antiquity.
