Its story
27 Monocerotis is an orange K-type giant nearly 275 light-years away, set within the Unicorn —a seventeenth-century constellation drawn against a winter Milky Way thick with stars. Its light, launched in the centuries when Europe's late Gothic cathedrals were rising, now crosses a region rich in open clusters and dark nebulae, close neighbour to the Orion family.
