Variable starIts story
In the constellation of the Lynx glows an old red M-type giant, cooler than the Sun yet vastly larger, its surface trembling in slow pulsations. The light reaching us tonight set off some four centuries ago, when the first true scientific academies were taking shape in Europe. Across 433 light-years it carries the colour of embers and the patience of a star nearing the end of its long cycle, breathing in tides of light no one has yet learned to predict.
