Its story
In Canis Major, the great dog faithful to Orion, shines a yellow G-type star, a spectral cousin of our Sun but far more distant. Its light set out about 603 years ago, when Portuguese sailors were rounding Cape Bojador and opening Europe to the vastness of the African Atlantic. It arrives now in a warm, familiar tone, as if our own Sun had leaned through from the other side of the dark.
