Omicron Cassiopeiae is a bluish B-type giant some 703 light-years away, a hot, massive star whose stellar wind can carve disks of gas around it. It belongs to the family of so-called Be stars, known for variability tied to the forming and dispersing of these disks. Its light pulses, subtly, within the great W traced by Queen Cassiopeia across the northern sky.

Omicron Cassiopeiae lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is October, when it culminates around midnight.

It can be seen from anywhere north of 42° S.
