Variable starIts story
In the southern hull of Carina burns a yellow sun of trembling light —a G-type star that pulses with the slow rhythm of a distant lighthouse. Its glow travelled 545 years to reach us: when it set out, Portuguese shipyards were finishing the carracks that would circle the globe. Larger than our Sun, its atmosphere breathes in cycles barely within our reach to measure —a stellar breath that long predates any human ear.
