What is Psi 5 Aurigae

Psi-5 Aurigae is one of the truly nearby stars of the sky, only 54 light-years away. It is a yellow G-type dwarf very similar to the Sun in color and temperature, a calm solar sibling drifting along its galactic orbit among the five psi stars of Auriga. Its cosmic closeness makes it one of those rare lights that are not lost dots but suns within a stone's throw, in astronomical terms.

Where it is and when to see it

Psi 5 Aurigae lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is December: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
