What is HIP 28524

In the Dove that flies beneath Lepus shines an orange K-class star, whose light set out some 614 years ago, when the Chinese shipyards were launching Zheng He's enormous vessels into the Indian Ocean. K stars are cooler than the Sun, golden in tone, common in ancient clusters where their warm shade contrasts with the blue giants.

HIP 28524 lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is December, when it culminates around midnight.
