What is HIP 25329
Four hundred and thirty-six light years separate this orange star of Orion from the terrestrial observer. The light gathered today left the star around 1590, when Mediterranean astrolabes were giving way to Tycho's first quadrant instruments. It is a temperate K-type, cool by the standards of the hunter's more famous neighbours, yet a genuine protagonist of a less travelled corner of the constellation.
Where it is and when to see it
HIP 25329 lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is December: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
