31 Cephei is a yellow-white F3 subgiant, about 3.7 times the Sun's radius and twenty-five times its luminosity. It burns at 6,700 K in the constellation named for the Ethiopian king, father of Andromeda in the Greek myth. It lies 179 light-years away: an intimate distance on galactic terms, near enough that its light crosses the void in less than two human lifetimes.
