Sixteen hundred and ninety light years in the heart of Cygnus separate this yellow-white variable from the observer. The light gathered today set off around the year 335, deep in the Eastern Roman Empire and under the reign of Constantine. Its F-type spectrum and its oscillating brightness place it among the pulsating stars historically used to measure distances within the Milky Way.
Where it is and when to see it
HIP 104185 lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is August: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight.
