In Cygnus, above the summer Milky Way, glows an orange K-type star. Its light crossed 372 years: it set off around 1653, as Cromwell proclaimed himself Lord Protector of England and dissolved the Long Parliament. Cooler than the Sun, it pulses among the spread feathers of the celestial swan, lost amid the thousands of suns hanging from the galactic river.
Where it is and when to see it
HIP 103956 lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is September: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight.
