What is HIP 102431
In Cepheus —the king chained to the polar sky— burns a yellow-white F-type star, slightly hotter than the Sun. Its light set out eighty-nine years ago, when in 1937 Amelia Earhart vanished over the Pacific and the world held its breath beside the radio. That same flicker, faithful to its rhythm, arrives now —untouched— to whoever turns their gaze northward.
Where it is and when to see it
HIP 102431 lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is September: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight.
