What is HIP 99026
Its yellow-white light left Cygnus some 119 years ago, when Einstein was publishing special relativity and the Wright brothers were barely beginning to tame the air. It is an F-type star, slightly hotter and more luminous than the Sun, white with a golden flicker. The Swan spreads its wings over the northern Milky Way, drawing one of the most beautiful stellar crosses of summer.
Where it is and when to see it
HIP 99026 lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is August: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
