What is Iota 2 Cygni
Iota-2 Cygni is a young, hot white A-type star drifting toward our solar system at about twenty kilometres per second. It carries nearly twice the Sun's mass and four times its radius, shining with thirty-five solar luminosities. It belongs to Cygnus, the great northern cross that glides each summer along the Milky Way like a bird in full flight.
Where it is and when to see it
Iota 2 Cygni lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is August, when it culminates around midnight.

- From New York it never sets and culminates about 79° up.
- From Sydney it culminates about 4° above the horizon.
It can be seen from anywhere north of 38° S.
It ranks no. 9 in brightness among the 137 stars of Cygnus in our catalogue. To find it, start from Deneb, the brightest: it lies about 13° away (a fist at arm's length covers about 10°).
