98 Herculis is an M-type red giant some 738 light-years away, cold and vast, in a late stage of its evolution. Its outer layers have cooled into deep reddish tones, a stellar sunset stretched across millions of years. Hercules, the constellation that shelters it, holds the globular cluster M13, one of the classic summer targets for amateur telescopes.

98 Herculis lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is June: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
