What is 15 Draco
15 Draconis drifts along the coils of the Dragon, that circumpolar serpent winding around the north celestial pole. A white A-class star —hotter than the Sun and clad in an almost pure hydrogen atmosphere— it reaches magnitude 4.94 from 487 light-years away. The light arriving tonight set out before any modern treatise had been written on the nature of our own Sun.
Where it is and when to see it
15 Draco lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is February: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
