What is Delta 2 Apus
Delta-2 Apodis is an orange K3 giant in the southern Bird of Paradise, about 613 light-years away. It forms a wide visual pair with Delta-1 Apodis, a closer red M5 giant, separated by some 103 arcseconds in the sky. To the naked eye both appear as a single warm double in a rarely visited constellation: the red-orange contrast comes out in modest binoculars.
Where it is and when to see it
Delta 2 Apus lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is June: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
