Variable starIts story
Within the claws of the southern Wolf pulses a white type A star whose brightness varies calmly, like a slow breathing. Hotter and more luminous than the Sun, its light took roughly 396 years to cross the void: it set out when Rembrandt was painting The Night Watch in Amsterdam and Cardinal Richelieu governed from the shadow of the young Louis XIII. It still throbs today, faithful to its silent rhythm among the stars of the cosmic wolf.
