Its story
1 Centauri opens the Flamsteed catalogue of the richest constellation in southern skies, the one the ancients pictured as a centaur drawing his spear. It is a mild F-type beacon some 63 light-years away —the light arriving now left when the first satellites were starting to circle Earth—. A touch hotter and whiter than the Sun, it glows quietly within the dense stellar river of the southern Milky Way, far from the bustle of Alpha and Beta Centauri.
