Its story
In the southern Centaurus, some 497 light-years away, shines this orange type K star. Its light set out around 1529, when Magellan and Elcano completed the first circumnavigation of the globe and proved by sail what reason had already suspected. Cooler than the Sun yet noticeably larger, its warm tone filters through the centaur's legs like a slow ember above the southern skies.
