Its story
In the sails of Vela burns an orange K-type giant, about 507 light-years away. Its light set out around 1519, the year Magellan sailed from Seville with five ships and one idea: to circle the world. It is far cooler than the Sun yet overwhelmingly more luminous, a swollen copper lamp suspended over the southern seas.
