Its story
Gamma Sextantis is a white pair 277 light-years away, orbiting each other every 77 years with an almost reckless eccentricity of 0.69. Its two components are separated by barely four-tenths of an arcsecond, a gap that only thirty-centimetre telescopes and larger can resolve. A much fainter third star accompanies them at thirty-seven arcseconds, completing a trio that crosses Sextans in silence.
