Its story

Delta Pyxidis is a white A-type star in the little Compass, a constellation Lacaille traced from the remains of the once-vast Argo Navis, the ship of the Argonauts. About 247 light-years away, its light has been travelling almost as long as the time elapsed since the French botanist mapped this southern corner. It stands out as one of the brighter points in a modest figure, where the sky still preserves the memory of a lost ship.
