Upsilon¹ Cassiopeiae is an orange K-type giant whose light crosses nearly 329 years before reaching us. It belongs to the rich yet discreet surroundings of the W of Cassiopeia, where mid-magnitude stars sketch the details of the royal throne. Upsilon² Cassiopeiae accompanies it as an optical pair: apparent closeness in the sky, considerable real physical separation. A reminder that constellations are human lines drawn over immense depths.
